Helping Trial Lawyers Navigate the Appellate System

Webcast of SCOTX Event Available

This past Thursday, the Appellate Sections of the State Bar of Texas and the Austin Bar Association put on a program entitled “An Evening with the Texas Supreme Court” at the InterContinental Stephen F. Austin Hotel here in Austin.  This is the second time this event has been presented.  Given the response, it will likely continue and may even expand to other cities.

The event featured a panel discussion with six of the Court’s nine current members, including Chief Justice Jefferson and Justices Hecht, O’Neill, Wainwright, Green, and Medina.  Topics included the Court’s docket, the Governor’s call for a five-percent budget reduction, the petition for review system and briefing requirements, and recent and upcoming rule changes.

ABA Appellate Section Chair Lisa Hobbs did a great job as moderator.  And thanks to the initiative of SCOTX Clerk Blake Hawthorne, the program was recorded and has been posted to the Court’s webcast page.
